A magnitude 2.3 earthquake was registered at 8:57am Thursday, September 22nd near the Robinson Creek community of Pike County. Was it really an earthquake? EKB Chief Meteorologist Laythan Hopkins has more information.

Strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the region this afternoon with gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning. The storms have left several thousand customers without electricity this evening. Here is the latest numbers as of 6:30pm:
Heavy rain moved through the region Saturday causing some minor problems. The strongest storms dumped more than 2" of rain according to doppler radar estimates. This caused some flooding along Hurricane Creek Road in Pike County.
Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Charleston WV spent the day in Lawrence County surveying damage from Monday's severe storms. They confirmed it was a tornado that touched down near the town of Louisa Monday afternoon.
Due to flooding and severe weather over the past several days, many roads in West Virginia are currently closed. The West Virginia Department of Transportation released a list of those closures, including a few in our region.
